Residential Filter FAQ

Q. Have your filters been scientifically tested?
Yes. The most accepted method for testing air filter efficiency is the ASHRAE standard 52.2 developed by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers. Our filters have complete ASHRAE test reports and has been certified 93% arrestance efficiency.

Q. What is the MERV (minimum efficiency reporting value) rating?
The residential filters are rated at MERV 7, providing a good balance between filtration and airflow for most residential HVAC systems.

Q. Do doctors recommend your filters?
Yes. Many allergy specialists across North America have recommended our filters to their patients since they were introduced in 1984. For years doctors have generally accepted the benefits of high-efficiency air filters as one means of minimizing allergy problems. Our filters offers excellent results at a reasonable price without any harmful ozone emissions common to expensive electronic air cleaners.

Q. Will your filters reduce my dusting?
Yes. Happy customers suggest our filters have reduced their dusting by up to 50%. Our filters removes the very fine dust that floats in the air for long period of times.

Q. How will it help my family’s health?
Cleaning the air in your home will reduce the various allergens and pollutants you and your family breath in. Your immune system won’t have to work as hard, allowing it to rest and regain strength. A healthier immune system and purified air can reduce allergies and improve you and your family’s ability to fight off colds, flus and other diseases.

Q. Will it reduce my energy bills?
Yes. Our filters will keep your furnace clean as well as your home. Dust on heating or air conditioning coils reduces your furnace’s efficiency and drives your energy bills up. By keeping your heating or air conditioning system clean, you can save up to 15% on your energy bills.

Q. Will it trap pet hairs and dander?
Yes. Most hairs and danders remain in the air for long periods of time before settling on rugs, drapes and furniture. Medical research has shown cat allergens to be very small 2-micron size particles which float in the air almost indefinitely. Our filters will remove 95% of hair and 75% of danders on one pass.

Q. Will it make my home smell fresher?
Yes. Many odours are due to tiny particles and smoke in the air. By reducing these pollutants your home will smell fresher.

Q. Do your filters produce any ozone?
No. Our filters do not produce any ozone. Electronic air cleaners have been criticized for producing harmful ozone emissions due to the high voltage electricity they use.

Q. How do your filters compare to electronic air cleaners?
Our filters are equally efficient as full size electronic air cleaners which cost $600-$800. One exception is smoke where a good electronic air cleaner can remove 40% of smoke on one pass, our filter removes only 30% of smoke on one pass. Electronic air cleaners must be cleaned at least every two weeks to keep them operating effectively. Our filters should be cleaned every 1-2 months.

Q. How long will Dust Eater last?
A lifetime if you look after it! Our filters have no electrical or moving parts to breakdown. They comes with a life time warranty and 60 day money back guarantee. If you should damage your filter in any way it can be repaired by the manufacturer for a nominal fee.

Q. Will it work if my furnace fan is not on?
No. Your furnace fan circulates the air in your entire home through your filter 2-3 times per hour. If the air is not moving it’s not being cleaned. Today’s modern furnaces circulate air continuously even if your heat is not on. Even older furnaces are on almost continuously from Fall through Spring. With continuous circulation, your heating bills are reduced and your home is more comfortable. If your air is not moving, warm air rises to the ceiling while cooler air is left at your level. All furnaces have a summer fan switch allowing you to run your furnace fan continuously. Some people install two speed motors which run the fan a 1/2 speed while the heat is not on. To obtain the very best results, continuous air circulation is recommended.

Q. How do I install your filters?
Our filters are designed to simply replace your standard disposable filter. Find out what size your disposable filter is and we will provide one of our filters of the same size. 80% of furnaces are fitted with standard rectangular filter racks or slots. We also have a hammock style filter available if this is what your furnace requires.

Q. How do I clean my filter?
It’s easy. Simply soak your dirty filter in a tub of hot water and all purpose cleaner for 10 minutes, then run a hose over it until it is clean.
